Teacher Job Description
TITLE OF POSITION: Biology I Teacher
ACCOUNTABILITY: This position reports to Science Department Chairperson and the Principal.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Note: The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive. Others may be assigned, subject to reasonable accommodations.)
• Teach four sections of freshman biology (Biology I)
• Maintain interest in incorporating the use of technology into the curriculum
• Attend HASTI (Hoosier Association of Science Teachers Association) conference
• Attend and participate in frequent meetings with the science department chairperson during the first two years at Brebeuf Jesuit
• Firm grasp and understanding of content
• Implement and help to develop departmental curricula for subject area
• Participate in departmental and school-wide professional development initiatives (examples: curriculum mapping, technology training, Ignatian education workshops)
• Participate in the extracurricular life of the students and the school
• Teach and lead students in accordance with Ignatian educational principles and the mission of Brebeuf Jesuit
• Act as a personal example of those attributes to which we call our students (the “Grad at Grad”): open to growth, intellectually competent, loving, religious, and committed to promoting justice
• Maintain a safe laboratory and take proactive measures in emphasizing lab safety
• Collaborate actively and fully with freshman biology teachers and all members of the science department
CREDENTIALS:
• REQUIRED
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Prior background in the study, practice, and/or teaching of subject area(s)
• Sensitivity to diversity
• PREFERRED
• Indiana Teaching License
• Endorsement in life science with a second endorsement in either physics and/or chemistry
• Master’s Degree
• Prior experience in diverse working community
