The Heart of Brebeuf award is given to honor a member of the Brebeuf Jesuit community who believes in and exemplifies the mission and core values of the school. This award celebrates an individual who is rooted in intellectual pursuit, prayerful discernment and generous service, working to make the world more just, humane and loving.
Being missioned with supporting, inspiring, and guiding Brebeuf Jesuit students is a sacred duty. The Heart of Brebeuf honoree has not only applied their dedication to our students, but have given of their time, treasure and talents to enrich the entire Brebeuf Jesuit community.
The 2018 recipient of the Heart of Brebeuf award is Ann W. King. Ann and her late husband, J.B., are the proud parents of three children. Their daughter, Debbie, graduated from Jacksonville University with a degree in K-12 art education and a masters in Nursery/Kindergarten-8 Education and Special Education, as well as a certification in Early Childhood Special Education. She resides in Arlington, VA with her husband Doug Andre. Debbie and Doug’s daughter, Dr. Emily Andre, son, David and his wife, Maura, also live in Virginia. Brian King `93 attended the University of Virginia where he studied Chemical Engineering and received his MBA from Harvard University. Brian resides in Richmond, VA, with his wife, Pamela and daughter, Grace. Dan King `94 attended DePauw University where he majored in Political Science and received his law degree from Indiana University Law School. He currently resides in Carmel, IN with his wife, Missy, and their son, Boden.
Ann served as a trustee from 1996-2002 and played a heroic role for the school when she stepped in to serve as Interim President of Brebeuf Jesuit during the 1999 – 2000 academic year. She championed initiatives that led to increased enrollment, managed the school and operations through a presidential transition, and was elated as the school earned a state basketball championship. Ann is a current member of the President’s Council and serves as a champion for the St. Ignatius Scholarship Fund, which provides books and lunch for students in need. Ann’s support continues to be far reaching and touches a variety of initiatives at the school: numerous capital campaigns, endowed scholarships, recent art studio renovations, and annual campaign initiatives.
Ann is an accomplished artist and is the owner of A King’s Art Studio and Gallery in Zionsville. The space features works in watercolor, ink, pastel, acrylic and mixed media, as well as handcrafted sterling silver jewelry. The gallery features Ann’s personal work and other juried show award winning artists.
