Brebeuf Jesuit Moving to Virtual Instruction Beginning November 30
The message below was sent to all Brebeuf Jesuit families on Thursday, November 12.
First, I want to share how encouraging it was to have our freshman Class of 2024 all together in their classes today for the first time. The energy and enthusiasm that they shared with us, was a light for me in the midst of challenging times.
Then, of course, it was a roller coaster ride today as we heard, processed, and began planning for the news that all schools in Marion County would need to be fully virtual by November 30. We at Brebeuf Jesuit understand and support the necessity to do our part to keep our community safe in the midst of this pandemic. While we all want to be at school in-person as much as possible, we also feel that the past eight months have taught us a lot about how to effectively carry out education in these circumstances. So, I want you to know that we feel prepared to continue to care for our students and for our entire community during this time.
In this message you will find a few key details regarding Brebeuf Jesuit’s next steps in the transition to fully virtual instruction, in keeping with the public health orders announced during today’s press conference with Mayor Joe Hogsett and Director of the Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD) Dr. Virginia Caine.
In accordance with the orders from MCPHD, Brebeuf Jesuit will move to all-virtual instruction on November 30. Our last day of in-person instruction will be next Friday, November 20. We will operate according to our already-planned schedule, with freshmen still at school every day, and grades 10-12 hybrid, during the week of November 16-20.
Students will not have any classes, either online or in-person, on November 23 or 24. These days will now serve as teacher prep days to prepare for fully virtual instruction.
Fully virtual instruction will begin Monday, November 30.
We anticipate, based on MCPHD guidance, that we will remain fully virtual through January 15, making Brebeuf Jesuit’s anticipated return date for in-person instruction January 19, 2021. There will be no school on January 18 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
We are currently working through a new and improved virtual academic schedule, which we will share with you next week. The model will be similar to the schedule we used this past April and May, with improvements based on what we learned in the spring.
EXTRACURRICULARS AND ATHLETICS
In keeping with the MCPHD order, extracurricular activities, including athletics, are allowed to continue with appropriate safety measures in place. These measures will be communicated to all participants.
I am planning to host another live Zoom Q&A next week to answer questions regarding these changes. Additional details and a Q&A pre-submission form will be emailed to all families soon. In the meantime, if you have any immediate questions, please contact us at email@example.com.
Thank you, as always, for your support as we continue to navigate these challenging times.
