The Spring Honors Convocation (SHC) recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of our hardworking students. A number of financial, merit, and character awards are presented each year. They are divided into the following categories:
Departmental Awards are handled by individual academic departments or offices and their respective committees. To learn more about Departmental Awards, click this link or the button above.
Students may be nominated for Nomination-Based Awards by Brebeuf Jesuit faculty or staff members. To learn more about Nomination-Based Awards, click this link or the button above.
Application-Based Awards are available to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors each year. By submitting a Spring Honors Convocation General Scholarship Application, students are placed into a pool to be considered for a number of awards, each with their own unique processes and criteria. Depending on the award, the information our scholarship committees take into account may include grade level, GPA, participation in extracurricular activities, financial need, character traits, and/or participation in community service beyond the hours that Brebeuf Jesuit’s curriculum requires. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between SHC scholarships and financial aid scholarships?
SHC scholarships are entirely separate from financial aid scholarships. Brebeuf Jesuit’s Office of Institutional Advancement coordinates the processes for all SHC scholarships and awards, whereas the Business Office coordinates all financial aid scholarships using the Facts Grant and Aid Assessment. The financial aid awards handled by the Business Office are for one year only, and families must reapply each year. My student receives a merit scholarship based on their High School Placement Test score. Do they need to submit a general SHC scholarship application to maintain this scholarship?
No, they do not, as HSPT-related merit awards are entirely separate from SHC awards, similarly to financial aid scholarships. Students who score in the 95th-98th percentile of the HSPT are automatically awarded $2,500.00 per year over the course of four years, and students who score in the 99th percentile are automatically awarded $3,000.00 per year over the course of four years. In order to renew this annual scholarship, students must simply maintain a GPA of 3.2. However, if these students would like to be considered for additional financial, merit, and/or character awards, they are welcome to submit a General SHC Scholarship Application that is sent out at the beginning of the spring semester each year.
Is the SHC General Scholarship Application required for students?
No, the SHC General Scholarship Application is optional to current Brebeuf students who wish to be considered for a variety of merit, financial, and character awards.
Who is eligible to complete the SHC General Scholarship Application?
Current Brebeuf Jesuit freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to complete the SHC General Scholarship Application.
Who is not eligible to complete the SHC General Scholarship Application?
Current prospective middle school students are not eligible to complete the SHC General Scholarship Application. Additionally, current Brebeuf seniors are not eligible to apply, but there are a variety of senior-specific awards and scholarships with their own unique processes; for additional details about senior-specific awards, please see our Nomination-Based Awards page and our Departmental Awards page.
When is the SHC General Scholarship Application deadline?
Although the date varies from year to year, the application is typically due in late January or early February. Brebeuf students are given roughly two weeks to complete the SHC scholarship application. The deadline for the 2021-2022 school year is Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.
Who makes up the decision committees?
Depending on the award, decision committees may include faculty, staff, and/or family or friends of the Brebeuf Jesuit community who established many of these awards to honor the memory of their loved ones.
When will my student be notified if they received a Spring Honors Convocation scholarship or award?
Notification of SHC scholarship receipt occurs in April or May each school year. Stay tuned for email communications!
