Ignatian Scholars Program to Expand for Class of 2024

Ignatian Scholars is a three-year program that focuses on academics, service, and leadership, with an emphasis on career exploration. Scholars are typically students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and leadership as freshmen at Brebeuf Jesuit. Students accepted into the Ignatian Scholars program are expected to apply to and complete the AP Capstone program their junior and senior years.

Ignatian Scholars have a passion to explore and develop their rich and diverse talents. They are expected to become leaders in their areas of interest and to serve their communities throughout their high school careers and beyond. This year, we are excited to expand the Ignatian Scholars class, offering this opportunity to more students. We hope to form a cohort of 40 students in the Class of 2024.

Structure of the Class:

For sophomores, the class will meet once during the eight-day schedule in the first semester. Class periods are designed to help students discover their strengths and potential career focuses. The class will also welcome guest speakers to campus to address different areas of student interest, such as college admissions, resume writing, leadership, selecting a college major, and the benefits of a liberal arts education, among other topics. Second semester, instead of meeting as a class, Scholars will meet individually with the Director of the Ignatian Scholars while they are enrolled in Sophomore Seminar with their College Counselors. Sophomores will also choose a service activity to complete to benefit their community; Ignatian Scholars from other grade levels will be invited to participate.

Junior year, students will meet formally at least twice with the Director of Ignatian Scholars to discuss their individual goals. The Director will work with each student to identify opportunities and individuals to assist them as they research potential college majors and professional careers. Juniors will also be assigned as mentors to the current sophomore class of Ignatian Scholars.

Senior year, Ignatian Scholars will receive support from both their College Counselors and the Director of the Ignatian Scholars program as they work to complete their college applications. Additionally, they will have opportunities to connect with Brebeuf Jesuit alumni who are current or former students at the Scholars’ prospective colleges/universities, as well as with members of the Brebeuf community who currently work in career fields that interest them.
