IU Honors Program in Foreign Languages (IUHPFL)

Is your student interested in spending the summer in Canada, China, France, Mexico or Spain? The IU Honors Program in Foreign Languages (IUHPFL) has been providing language-intensive summer study abroad programs for Indiana high school students since 1962.

Language learners have opportunities to further their language studies through “total immersion” programs in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. Students travel to one of eight countries for five or six weeks during the summer after their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school.

IUHPFL’s unique Three Pillar structure — a combination of intensive academic instruction, mandatory language commitment to speak only in the target language while abroad, and full-time integration into a host family — allows for students to participate in a total immersion experience.

IUHPFL students not only gain an exceptional knowledge and understanding of the host culture while abroad, but also make significant strides linguistically. In addition to daily academic instruction and afternoon activities, students learn the host country’s rich history through cultural immersion, visiting museums and memorials, and participating in regional and overnight excursions.

Brebeuf Jesuit will host an information session on Monday October 14 at 6:30 in the Efroymson Auditorium. Parents and students are invited to come and learn more about this opportunity.

Please contact Mrs. Peggy Poole at ppoole@brebeuf.org with any questions.
