Kathryn Haughs Named New Head Girls Volleyball Coach
Kathryn Haughs has been named Brebeuf Jesuit’s new Head Girls Volleyball Coach. Born and raised in Carmel, Indiana, she was brought up in the volleyball world. Kathryn attended Cathedral High School where she was a four-year varsity volleyball player. While at Cathedral, she was able to help her team to two state championships, as well as earning National Catholic Team of the year. She was voted Most Valuable Player, earned Academic All-State, All-State, as well as being voted an Indiana All-Star. Additionally, Kathryn was awarded with the Joseph Dezlean Athlete of the Year award her senior year for her work in the classroom and on the court. Kathryn played club volleyball for Munciana from ages 6-18 and earned multiple top 10 national finishes.
Following high school, Kathryn continued her volleyball career at Indiana University. Unfortunately, while training at IU she found out that she needed career-ending shoulder surgery. After three separate surgeries she decided it was time to turn to coaching with a major emphasis on injury prevention in the sport, beginning her coaching career with Volleykats. Kathryn then moved on to the University of Kentucky to finish her degree. There, she coached for Lexington United and brought her fundamental ideals and Munciana background to a newer volleyball community. She now has five former players with Division I scholarships.
After coming back home to Indiana, Kathryn created her own club team, PAK Elite, who have had multiple Top10 finishes in the open club scene. Additionally, Kathryn continues to train and bring fundamentals back to volleyball via Volleykats.
“We are very excited to have Kat leading our storied program. She brings a dynamic knowledge of technical training and elite competition from her time at Munciana under Dave Shondell and Mike Ligenfelter. Additionally, her time at Cathedral under legendary coach Jean Kesterson in a transformational, purpose-driven, and education-based program, where a caring and inclusive environment was consistently modeled, has given Coach Haughs the tools and experience to successfully develop servant leaders who are women for others.”
Kathryn is very excited about building upon the legacy that Brebeuf Volleyball has built over the years, and she is thrilled to join the Brebeuf volleyball family. Her goal is to inspire, motivate, and educate the program as a whole. Kathryn brings a mixed knowledge of the game learned from some of the best coaches in the state that she is ready to apply to this growing program. She brings a positive attitude and a passion to pass on what she loves so much about the game as well as teaching girls the life skills that they will use in the future.
