Opera Legend, Angela Brown, to be Artist-in-Residence at Brebeuf

An Indianapolis legend and opera star,Angela Brown, will be in artist-in-residence over the next few weeks vocal coaching 9 of our choir students in preparation for their upcoming Broadway and Christmas concerts.  Angela is a larger than life person, who unites opera, pops, and gospel in one sensational voice. Her highly successful Metropolitan Opera debut in the title role of Aida captured instant attention from international print and broadcast media and catapulted Angela onto the world’s prestigious opera and symphonic stages. Headlines from The New York Times read:  “At last an Aida,” and CBS Weekend News proclaimed: “the future of opera has arrived!” followed by features on the front page of The New York Times, Oprah Magazine, Essence Magazine, Ebony Magazine, Classical Singer and Reader’s Digest.

While opera is the main catalyst for her career, Angela’s career goes beyond performance to education. She opened her own vocal studio in Indianapolis located at the Basile Opera Center where she is still accepting students.  Her most recent endeavor is launching Morning Brown, Inc., a nonprofit with the mission of bridging the gap between accessible, live-music programs and underserved individuals, schools, and communities. Drawing on the success of her groundbreaking show, Opera…from a Sistah’s Point of View©1997, Morning Brown, Inc., works to bring cultural experiences and awareness to cultural deserts.

Angela’s career taken her all over the world and we are delighted to have her join our community to shape the artist of tomorrow.
