Student Spotlight – Chris Doehring ’18
Loves About Brebeuf
I love the relationship that students are able to have with their teachers. It is awesome to get to know them on a personal level by going to see them in their offices. I have a very casual relationship with many of my teachers and I see them as friends as well as teachers. Brebeuf gives students that unique opportunity.
My favorite classes from last year were Microeconomics with Mr. VanSlambrook and Environmental Science with Ms. Miller. This year, I have really enjoyed Calculus BC with Mr. Elliott and Entrepreneurship with Mr. VanSlambrook.
Next year, I will be attending college and studying business, math, or financial engineering. I do not yet know where I will go but some of my favorite schools are Princeton University, University of Alabama, and Southern Methodist University.

I have sat in a hot tub with Conan O’Brien multiple times. Apparently Conan and my family have a similar taste in ski vacations because we have stayed at the same hotel in Utah over New Years two or three times. After a long day of skiing, I often go sit in the hot tub and Conan sometimes comes to relax as well. He is very friendly and his hair is much taller after skiing than it is on TV.
What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc?
I love The Office. I have yet to find any show that can match its humor and wit. If you ever spend any time with me, you will hear a copious amount of Office references.
If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?
I would go to Florence, Italy. I went to Italy in middle school and loved Florence. It is a beautiful city and I love the intersection of so many different time periods in its art and architecture. You can see things from the Roman Empire, the Renaissance, and the Middle Ages, all in one block and the way it flows together is amazing.
What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
For Thanksgiving every year, we have 20 Doehrings over to our house and it is amazing. My uncle built his own turkey deep fryer and he always deep fries the turkey in our front yard. For those of you who have never tried it, deep fried turkey is the best thing ever and I would highly recommend it. I have 3 guy cousins all within a year of me so I always love hanging out with them. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and we go hard every single year. It is the perfect combination of food, family, and fun.
What advice would you offer our Braves in the Class of 2021?
I would tell them to get to know their teachers. This is probably the most cliched thing ever but I can’t stress it enough. The opportunity for students to have personal relationships with their teachers is what makes Brebeuf special and you should take advantage. Some of my best mentors have been teachers and if you have some personal relationships with your teachers, it can really help make for some good anecdotes on college rec letters.
