Student Spotlight – John Whiting ’18

Loves About Brebeuf

I love how the teachers interact with the students. All the teachers really want to get to know who you are and want to get to know you on a personal level. When you go into any office for help, the teachers are willing to help you, even if your particular teacher is not there. I think that the student-teacher dynamic really makes the atmosphere at Brebeuf special.

Class You Are Most Looking Forward to This Year

The class I am most looking forward to this year is Intro to Entrepreneurship with Mr. VanSlambrook. The course is new to Brebeuf and the syllabus is constructed so that we can look at case studies of successful and failed start-up companies and really go in depth on the inner workings of an important part of the economy.

Future Plans

I hope to attend Washington University in St. Louis, Depauw, Miami (OH), or Indiana University next year studying either economics or finance.

Random Fact(s)

I am the only one of my family to go to Brebeuf. I have three older sisters that all went to Cathedral.

What are you most looking forward to during this school year?

I am most looking forward to getting the college application process over with, so that I can enjoy the rest of my senior year.

What is your current favorite show or series on tv, Netflix, etc.?

I just started watching Game of Thrones which is pretty good, but my favorite show on Netflix is Stranger Things.

What advice would you offer our newest Braves in the Class of 2021?

My advice to the Class of 2021 is to get involved. When clubs and extracurriculars start up, join the ones that catch your eye. You can meet a lot of new people and if you stay committed, it can develop into a leadership position.
