Student Spotlight – Mary Claire Sullivan ’17

Loves About Brebeuf

I love that Brebeuf provides so many opportunities to help students grow as full individuals. School sponsored cultural and mission trips, retreats, convocations, and diversity dialogues have all been great learning opportunities for me and so many other students. I love hearing about other students’ experiences and viewpoints because it shows me how many chances for growth we have and how many different perspectives there are all around us. In my four years at Brebeuf I have had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C., South Dakota, and Barcelona, and each has been an enriching adventure.

Favorite Class

My favorite classes so far have been English 11 with Ms. Moore and Sociology with Mr. Oliver. I enjoyed English 11 because our teacher found ways to incorporate popular culture into our lesson plans about British Literature and she was great at making every student feel included in class. In Sociology, we have the chance to discuss and challenge the norms of our culture in an environment where every student is encouraged to share their thoughts.

Future Plans

I am undecided about my major, but I plan on furthering my education at a Jesuit university. I am deciding between Regis University and Loyola University Chicago.

Random Fact

I have the same birthday as Beyoncé.

What has been your favorite Brebeuf experience or most memorable moment so far?

My favorite Brebeuf experience has been the Pine Ridge Cultural Immersion trip. On this trip we spend a week camping, hiking, and reflecting in the sacred Black Hills National Forest. The second week is spent on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation at the Jesuit residence. We learned about Native culture and met many amazing people.

Are you going to be watching the Super Bowl?  Any thoughts on the game?

No, I don’t really pay attention to sports, I don’t even know when or where the Super Bowl is. My family members may be watching the game, but other than that it will just be a normal Sunday!
