Thank You to Andy and Lorna Mohr – A Message from Fr. Bill Verbryke, S.J.

Dear Brebeuf Jesuit Community,

Philanthropy Week greetings from Brebeuf Jesuit! This week celebrates two of the core components that are critical to our community—our rich tradition of educating men and women for others, and the loyal, generous donors who bring that tradition to life. Each day this week provides a great opportunity to highlight the people, values and programs that positively impact our culture of philanthropy.

Today, I’d like to celebrate a family who has helped Brebeuf Jesuit achieve a milestone that I hope will inspire others. As leaders in the Indianapolis community and involved parents of Brebeuf Jesuit alumni Drew ’12 and Sam ’15, Andy and Lorna Mohr have demonstrated a deep commitment to Jesuit education through role model involvement in their community, and in support of the students, faculty and staff at Brebeuf Jesuit.

Their dedication has had a profound impact on the Brebeuf community and their support did not fade with the graduation of their children. Andy and Lorna’s gifts to Brebeuf Jesuit now total well over $1 million, making them the largest individual benefactors in the school’s history. Their gifts have been used for student scholarship, capital projects, and annual fund campaigns—to name just a few. In addition, Andy Mohr Automotive donated two new vehicles for Brebeuf Bistro raffles which generated additional gifts in excess of $150,000.

In a recent visit with Andy and Lorna, they shared their sentiments about supporting Brebeuf and why they remain involved and engaged even though their sons have graduated.

“Brebeuf Jesuit had a profound impact on our children, and we appreciate the value it adds to the community. We are inspired by the leadership, faculty, students, and graduates, and are honored to have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of Brebeuf Jesuit. We hope the telling of our story will inspire others within the Brebeuf community to support the school with their own time, talent and/or treasures.”

During the Leading the Way capital campaign, Andy and Lorna’s support was vital to transforming the library into a modern learning environment that now bears the name, Mohr Family Information Commons. Their support continues, and as an act of stewardship and reflection of gratitude, the soccer stadium will be named in their honor and will bear the name Andy Mohr Stadium. The entire Brebeuf Jesuit community is invited to join me on September 26 at 5:00 p.m. as we honor Andy and Lorna Mohr at the dedication ceremony.

I look forward to our annual Giving Day festivities being held this Friday to culminate Philanthropy Week, and I ask that you take a moment to join in the spirit and energy that is driving our culture. At the opening of the school year, I charged our community to be open… generous…and courageous. The strength of our community is built on the foundation of all those who support the school with their love.

I hope you will join me in thanking Andy and Lorna Mohr for all they have done to support Brebeuf Jesuit and I look forward to sharing future stories with you about the impact donors have on our community.

God’s blessings,
Father Bill Verbryke, S.J.
