Umayr Shaikh ’17 Selected as a Winner of The Inaugural Genentech Science Award
Brebeuf Jesuit student Umayr Shaikh ’17 has been selected as a recipient of The Inaugural Genentech Emperor Science Award. The award program is designed to encourage high school students to explore careers in science, specifically cancer research and care, through a unique mentoring opportunity.
Out of 1200 applicants, only 100 are chosen for the award which allows students the chance to be paired with a mentoring scientist to collaborate on a multi-week cancer research project. Students selected for the award demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in scientific search. Umayr will have the opportunity to not only work with an esteemed scientist, but will also receive a stipend for the project and Google Chrome Notebook, and the chance to continue the mentoring program for the future.
